Invitational format attracts best-of-the-best

Building on the success of last year’s rodeo – which featured the successful “invitational” format that was introduced in 2008 – the 64th annual Cloverdale Rodeo will again showcase the top cowboys and cowgirls in the world by offering payouts nearly double what have been seen in the past.

Notable contestants that have been confirmed in 2010 are:

Bobby Mote / 2009 World Bareback Champion
Chet Johnson / 2009 Canadian Saddle Bronc Champion
Lindsay Sears / 2009 World Final Standings Ladies Barrel Racing, finished 2nd / 2009 Cloverdale Rodeo LBR-Champion

The new format marks the most significant change in the history of the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair - with organizers anticipating even more exciting action and entertainment in the rodeo arena this year. Each rodeo contestant will compete twice and the combined total score/time will determine the top eight contestants for the Finals on Monday.

Cowboy Church Service
Sunday, May 23
10:00am in the Stetson Bowl
With Rev. Coy Huffman

Reverend Coy Huffman, a tough-as-lumber looking cowboy with a deep mid-west accent, will begin his sermon — one of the inspirational sort — with a prayer of thanks. Less devout riders on horseback will form a Wild-West background as they meander around the ring.

In the Wild West, these cowboy church services were a thread that kept not just families but communities together during difficult times, and a tradition of inclusion that continues to live on today, including at the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair.

Continuing a long western tradition, ‘Cowboy Church’ is a non-denominational service open to all.
